Introducing East Orange General Hospital Hospitalists Program

East Orange General Hospital is pleased to announce that beginning April 2021, East Orange General Hospital will partner with TeamHealth to provide Hospitalists for East Orange’s patients. As valued members of our clinical community, we want you to be among the first to learn of this exciting news and share details about what this partnership means for you.

A Hospitalist is a physician who specializes in providing care for patients who are admitted to the hospital. When you are admitted to the hospital, a Hospitalist will assume your care on behalf of your primary physician and will be available to talk with you and your family about your treatment. Most Hospitalists are internal medicine physicians or family medicine physicians. All our Hospitalists are Board Certified or Board Eligible in their specialty.

When you are admitted the Hospitalist will review your medical records and may contact your primary care physician to discuss your condition. Throughout your hospitalization, your Hospitalist and primary care physician may communicate during your treatment. When you are discharged, the Hospitalist will contact your primary care physician to discuss any additional treatment needs, help arrange follow-up care, and prescribe any needed medication. Lastly, your primary care physician will have access to all of your medical records following the hospitalization.

TeamHealth is the leading physician practice in the U.S. with a strong reputation for providing excellent service to its hospital partners, they state that its purpose is toperfect its physician’s ability to practice medicine, every day, in everything they do.” One of the many reasons we chose to partner with TeamHealth is the unparalleled resources and support they offer clinicians. Their national network of affiliated healthcare professionals provides emergency medicine, hospital medicine, anesthesiology, general and orthopedic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology hospitalist, urgent care, post-acute care, and medical call center solutions to civilian and military hospitals, clinics, physician groups, and post-acute care facilities nationwide. In 2014, TeamHealth was named among “America’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies” by Forbes Magazine and in 2015, TeamHealth was named among “The World’s Most Admired Companies” by Fortune magazine. From 2015 to 2018, TeamHealth was named among “150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare” by Becker’s Hospital Review. We look forward to forging a strong partnership with TeamHealth.

Thank you for your continued support as we make positive changes to benefit our clinical and administrative teams and—most importantly—the patients and families we are privileged to serve. East Orange General Hospital is proud to introduce this program and offer increased patient safety, reduced duration of one’s stay in the hospital, shorter wait times, and Hospitalists who have a wide range of patient experiences. Finally, we appreciate and value the clinical expertise and service you provide to our patients and community. Because of you, we are continually closer to achieving our mission to improve the hospital and patient experience.

East Orange General Hospital Achieves Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence AwardTM

East Orange General Hospital in the top 5% in the Nation for Patient Safety

East Orange, NJ – East Orange General Hospital announced that it has received the Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence AwardTM. For the second year in a row, this distinction places East Orange General Hospital among the top 5% of all short-term acute care hospitals reporting patient safety data as evaluated by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals.

“We are honored to receivethis recognition,” said Paige Dworak, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, East Orange General Hospital. “Our healthcare team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate and individualized care in a safe healing environment.”

During the study period (2015 to 2017), Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient hospitals demonstrated excellent performance in safety provided for patients in the Medicare population, as measured by objective outcomes (risk-adjusted patient safety indicator rates) for 14 patient safety indicators defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the Patient Safety Excellence Award were, as compared to patients at non-recipients hospitals, on average*:

  • 55.9% less likely to experience an accidental cut, puncture, perforation or hemorrhage during medical care.
  • 50.9% less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest.
  • 64.4% less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital.
  • 57% less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired at the hospital.

In addition, if all hospitals in the country performed at the level of award recipients for each of the 14 Patient Safety Indicators, 127,667 patient safety events could have been avoided.*

“We are proud to recognize the recipients of the 2019 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, which shines a spotlight on the hospitals that are preventing the occurrence of serious, potentially avoidable complications, for patients during their hospital stay,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We applaud these hospitals and their commitment to providing the best possible care for every patient.”

Grand re-opening of Emergency Department: The latest in capital investments at East Orange General Hospital

(East Orange, New Jersey — August 31, 2017) — A $1.2 million renovation project in the Emergency Department at East Orange General Hospital (EOGH) is the latest in a series of capital investments completed since a partnership agreement with Prospect Medical Systems was finalized in March 2016. The Emergency Department renovations, completed in July 2017, include a variety of aesthetic and practical upgrades including new lighting, flooring, ceilings, air conditioning, and more.

“For many patients, the first point of contact with our hospital is the Emergency Department,” said Paige Dworak, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, EOGH. “Those who come to our Emergency Department will now receive a greatly improved experience thanks to these renovations.

EOGH has seen significant capital investment in facilities, technology, and equipment since joining the Prospect family of hospitals. Prospect has committed to provide more than $30 million in operational and capital investments at EOGH over five years. One of Prospect’s commitments was to strengthen existing programs that the East Orange and Essex County communities have come to rely on while introducing new services to meet other healthcare needs. Among the investments and growth over the past 18 months:

  • State of the art 3-D mammography technology for the Radiology Department and the Women’s Health Center. This new equipment gives radiologists the clearest and most detailed mammography images available today. This allows for earlier detection of a breast mass and, consequently, the ability to diagnose breast cancer when it is at its most treatable stage.
  • Renovations for inpatient surgical and psychiatric assessment units.
  • New diagnostic and treatment equipment, and several infrastructure enhancements.
  • A Center for Obesity and Related Diseases, headed by bariatric surgeon Dr. Saniea Majid. Here, members of the community can receive the benefits of life-changing weight loss surgery in a program led by a respected and experienced team of experts.

“These renovations, new programs, and advanced technology are part of the multi-million dollar capital investment that Prospect is making in our hospital to position us for success,” said Dworak. “We have also entered into several partnerships with leading health care providers to improve our expertise and the scope of care we deliver to the community.”

Among those new partnerships:

  • On May 31, EOGH finalized an agreement with North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) to provide perioperative management and anesthesia services to EOGH.  Founded in 1986 by the anesthesia group from Long Island’s North Shore University Hospital, NAPA is one of the leading single-specialty anesthesia and perioperative management companies in the United States. This partnership allows EOGH to utilize customized strategies and solutions from NAPA to enhance the delivery of patient care.
  • EOGH has a new Emergency Medicine provider – CEP America – which is providing physician staffing and leadership in our Emergency Department. CEP America has been pioneering practices in emergency department management for more than 40 years.

“These new partnerships are providing improved care, responsiveness, and outcomes for the patients we serve,” said Dworak. “Our recent patient surveys have shown significant improvement in customer satisfaction, which we believe is a reflection of the hard work of our staff plus the investments made over the last year and a half.”
