The non-invasive Vascular Laboratory at East Orange General Hospital is committed
to providing the highest level of care to our patients utilizing state-of-the-art
digital technology for the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease.
The Vascular Laboratory offers comprehensive, non-invasive ultrasonic blood flow
evaluation of the legs, arms, and neck using the latest advances in ultrasound technology.
All examinations are performed by registered and experienced Vascular Technologists
who work with highly-trained Vascular Surgeons to provide accurate diagnostic information
that assists the referring doctor in treating patients with disorders of the circulatory
system.
A full range of non-invasive tests are available at our Vascular Laboratory including
tests for:
- Cerebrovascular Testing: An ultrasound probe is placed on the surface of
the neck to evaluate blood flow in the carotid arteries that provide circulation
to the brain.
- Arterial Testing: Arteries in the arms and legs are evaluated for reduced
blood flow or blockage by the placement of a series of blood pressure cuffs at different
levels and using sound wave (Doppler) evaluation of the arteries.
- Venous Testing: The veins of the arms and legs are scanned by placing an
ultrasound probe on the surface of the skin and recording pictures of the vein to
look for blockages.
- Renal (Kidney) Artery Testing: Blood flow to the kidneys is evaluated by
placing a small ultrasound transducer on the belly in several different locations.
This examination is performed after 4-6 hours of not eating or drinking.
