The roots of the Volunteer Services department of East Orange General Hospital (EOGH) go back to the first ‘Candy Striper’ program in the nation which began in here, at EOGH, in 1944.

Today, East Orange General Hospital still recognizes that volunteers are an essential part of the level of excellence we provide to our patients. The Volunteer Services department offers many choices for volunteers to determine the right fit for their talents and skills while meeting the hospital’s needs.

Currently, the Volunteer Services department provides volunteers for approximately half of the ancillary and clinical departments of East Orange General Hospital. The department provides opportunities for al age groups from 15-year-olds to our seasoned senior residents.
